ME+EM Marylebone, London.
The ME+EM flagship store on Marylebone High Street, London, is the third and most recent collaboration between Tina Vaia and EJM Studio for the esteemed fashion brand. As the largest of ME+EM’s eight UK stores, it reflects the brand’s ethos of understated luxury with British flair. The 3826 sq ft space blends heritage and contemporary elements through artisanal craftsmanship and natural materials, creating an inviting and functional environment.
Collaborating with founder Claire Hornby, Milton and Vaia preserved the building’s history – once a London & South Western bank – while introducing modern touches. Architectural features like arched windows and original columns are highlighted, complemented by circular banquette seating and dark wood furniture reminiscent of grand banking halls. Handmade emerald green coffee tables nod to Victorian pubs and railway stations.
The custom stone floor merges Victorian chequerboard and 1970s ‘Crazy Paving’ styles, with intricate tile patterns continuing into rugs in the fitting rooms. Oak bobbin rail fixtures are crafted from fallen trees around London. Spacious fitting rooms, filled with natural light, offer a relaxed atmosphere.
With a colour palette inspired by Josef Albers, the store integrates mustard yellows, greens, and textured materials. Collaborations with sustainable suppliers ensure an artisanal, personal touch, reinforcing the connection between tradition and modern luxury.
